Kaplan is an American businessman, yet he is so serious about Mahler#2 that he performed, recorded and researched it out of his own pocket. He must have some basic music training but obviously way way beyond those formally trained conductors. Yet he did it.
The question is: why can't he just conduct ONE MORE symphony (even though he is rich enough)? Why he needs a life of research in order to do JUST one symphony, which others can do 2-3 versions of complete recordings? Why, in your opinion, is it so difficult for someone like Kaplan (or you and me)?
