Poor CD remastering can be very misleading

Opinions to the tenors of the golden age can vary depending on one's exposure of their singing via CD or vinyl recordings.  Tamango definitely is among the greatest legions of dramatic tenor, that is for sure!  Verdi' personal perference is something indicative, even thought we lack the audio documents to prove!  Kraus may be a bit too young and immature when placed alongside these legions.  Folks here may not have noticed the CD restoration of Ward Marston.  Up to this date, his remastering should be the best in the market and it is good that Naxos CD has his expertise in some of their historical releases.  If not, his own label, I am sure if still in operation or not, may provide a very good source of golden age singers 'closer-to-life' sound reproduction.
