A call comes into the lab while the team works on a body. It's Angela calling from Santa Fe, and she asks to speak with Brennan in private. Her boyfriend, Kirk Persinger, has been missing five days. He left with a guide for a one-day photo shoot in the desert, and never returned. To add to the mystery, a human skull was left on the local Sheriff's porch that day. Sensing the fear and urgency in Angela voice, Brennan packs her bags and heads to the desert. Upon arriving, Angela and Brennan head over to the Sheriff Ben Dawes' office. Brennan examines the skull, and quickly reveals that it was a male, Caucasian, and 30-35 yrs of age. She then notices bevel marks at the base of the skull indicating a gunshot wound...
Angela從沙漠致電實驗室，欲與Brennan對話。原來她的男朋友Kirk於五天前出發參加一個沙漠攝影團以後，便沒有再回來。警長的辦公 室在同一天內發現了一個頭骨，令事情變得更不可思議。Brennan有感事態嚴重，馬上起行到沙漠去。經檢驗後，Brennan證實頭骨屬於一名三十至三 十五歲的外籍男子，而她更發現頭顱的底部有中槍的痕跡。到底Kirk是生是死？頭骨的真正主人是誰？
