Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican Church, 聖公會) is one of the major Christian denomination (宗派) in the world. The worldwide Anglican Communion (普世聖公宗) is composed of 38 provinces (教省 member church, e.g. Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui) which trace their root to the Church of England (英國國教 the state religion of England). In simplest way to say, anglican church is both catholic (普世大公 not equal to Roman Catholic) and reformed (see 39 Articles of Anglican Church), it is classified as the middle way between Roman Catholic Church and Protestant denominations, in fact anglicans think that they have combined the good points of the two branches as English Reformation takes place later than that in Europe.
However, among the 38 provinces of Anglican Communion, some of them are of High Church (高派 i.e. more close to catholic) while some of them are of Low Church (very protestant and focus on Bible teaching very much, for example the Diocese of Sydney 悉尼教區). Therefore, people would see Anglicanism a wide spectrum.
Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican Church) is one of the major denomination in Hong Kong since Hong Kong was once under British rule, with Bishop So chairing the Hong Kong Christian Council (基督教協進會) and Hong Kong Bible Society (香港聖經公會). The head of the church, Archbishop of Hong Kong (香港聖公會大主教), is also the only head of a single church in Hong Kong to be listed in the government order of precedence (香港政府禮賓排名). Generally speaking, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui is closer to the Protestant side from the catholic side. HKSKH also has closer relationhip with the Independent protestant church in China since the influence of Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui (中華聖公會) is great in China before the establishment of PRC.
Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui is also famous as it organizes many Band 1 schools namely, DBS, DGS, St. Paul College, St. Paul Co-edu, Heep Yan College, St Stephen's Girls', Lam Woo MSS, etc. And it is also one of the major supporting church of 祟基神學院, CUHK.
