經 常 批 評 本 地 大 學  港 產 世 界 級 數 學 家 丘 成 桐 ， 噚 日 發 炮 指 有 高 等 院 校 豪 花 約 100 萬 美 金 ， 請 一 位 知 名 教 授  香 港 做 研 究 ， 但 佢 只 係 同 自 己 學 生 合 作 ， 唔 帶 本 地 生 ， 結 果 只 會 令 間 院 校 風 光 一 番 ， 「 可 以 同 UGC （ 大 學 教 資 會 ） 講 ， 我  有 猛 人  度 ， 但 大 教 授  主 要 目 標 係  錢 （ 做 研 究 ） 。 」

請 知 名 教 授 如 買 花

丘 教 授 話 ， 咁 樣 邀 請 知 名 教 授 ， 香 港 整 體 冇 乜 得 益 ， 「 等 如 買 花 一 樣 ， 對 香 港 唔 係 好 ， 因 為 佢  邊 得 閒 真 正 幫 到 培 養 本 地 學 生 、 本 地 學 術 研 究 。 」 最 弊 係 香 港 政 府 一 樣 本 末 倒 置 ， 以 為 咁 就 等 如 培 養 到 人 才 。

第 二 個 俾 丘 教 授 鬧  係 企 業 家 ， 佢 話 10 年 前 已 經 話 香 港 要 發 展 高 科 技 ， 但 當 時 商 界 朋 友 話 要 做 金 融 中 心 ， 結 果 金 融 風 暴 搞 到 爆 晒 煲 。 第 三 個 要 鬧  係 家 長 ， 因 為 家 長 成 日 都 以 為 讀 數 冇 出 路 ， 丘 教 授 話 其 實 唔 少 華 爾 街 專 家 同 企 業 高 層 都 係 讀 數 出 身 ， 兩 星 期 前 仲 有 獵 頭 公 司 搵 佢 去 做 投 資 顧 問 ， 年 薪 高 達 百 萬 美 金 ， 係 佢  家  三 倍 ， 不 過 佢 不 為 所 動 。

丘 教 授 下 月 4 號 就 60 歲 ， 除  有 人 搵 佢 去 華 爾 街 ， 都 有 人 搵 佢 留  香 港 做 大 學 校 長 ， 不 過 佢 想 用 多  時 間 做 研 究 ， 所 以 拒 絕 晒 。 丘 成 桐 係 哈 佛 大 學 教 授 ， 今 次 應 中 大 邀 請 返  慶 祝 60 大 壽 ， 兼  星 期 六  「 數 學 新 浪 潮 」 講 幾 何 。

This again brings up the question...what is the priority for University, research or teaching? I believe that the professor could probably have some important research topics, but the fact that he didn't want to educate the students at the university he works for, means that no local student can benefit from it. I agree with the first attack on that particular school and the professor.

The second attack is less relevant in that HK is a financial centre. If High Tech companies think that there are benefits of setting up research in HK then they won't wait until HK's super-rich to move.

The third attack is unnecessary because I have yet to hear that Math is useless from any parent. In fact a lot of parents want their kids to excel at Math, with shops like Kumon at early age to training in Math Olympiad. However Math, like art, is not something that you can push.
You might be able to teach a kid how to draw things that are similar to the real object, however that is not art and real artist cannot be trained. HK's math training is "stuffed Peking Duck" and works up to a certain point. However some got stuffed so much that they no longer like the subject.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

well...most if not all parents in HK would push their kids to do a BBA rather than a BS in Math or Physics in university                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

BTW sometimes people like 丘成桐 are too much into academics and does not consider how a parent or an entrepreneur thinks, and that's where people think those who are in advanced area of research/academics as living in the "Ivory Tower"
