If you go with your boy / girl friend, or arround 5 ~ 10 people recommend not same.

5 days 4 night to go 2 place are not enough time, make it 7 days is better!
Airport to Patong beach arround 45 minutes ~ Taxi Thb 500
Patong beach in Phuket is very convenient, bar, restaurant, shopping mall anything you can find there.

But if you go with your lover, I'll suggest you to go Karon Beach, beach more beauty than Patong, less people with more romantic.......
