hdmi to dvi

I called a computer closeup,
he says they got the adaptor:

HDMI (female) -> DVI (male)
Would this work?

Because I'm using Apple Monitor, the cable at the back of monitor is sealed, only got a cable with DVI (male) to connect to PC... I may need one with DVI (female) I think...
